Dabbling vs. Going All In:  How as Medical Providers do we find Balance, Fulfillment and Success

No longer are medical providers looking to only practice medicine.  Many medical providers are looking for side gigs.  Do we desire more income, feeling unfulfilled or looking for more balance in our lives by lessening patient load?

As a physician and Mom that has taken on various side gigs I understand the motivation, the potential and the downsides.  I was looking for extra income with a more flexible, balanced schedule.   I found some to be lucrative and some not so much.  Some are fulfilling and some not so much.  The options are endless now with potential side gigs.  But do these side gigs lead to dabbling and more stress?

Dabbling can be great when we are looking to explore, make connections and better define our interests.  Over time continuous dabbling often leads to feeling unfulfilled and becoming stagnant.  It is only when we lean into our passion and go full in are we going to be able to reach our true potential and goals.

Going all in requires courage, determination, and a willingness to embrace the unknown. It means committing fully to a chosen path, setting ambitious goals, and persevering in the face of challenges. When we go all in, we unleash our full potential and open ourselves up to endless possibilities.

As a physician coach, I've seen many medical providers grapple with the decision to dabble or go all in. Some may hesitate to pursue a passion project or take on leadership roles within their organizations for fear of failure or uncertainty. Others may feel torn between their clinical responsibilities and their desire to explore other interests outside of medicine that may not be as lucrative.

At times we have to reassess and make decisions on what is going to allow us fulfillment, growth and the ability to live our life purpose.  That may mean we may have to stop dabbling and listen quietly to our inner self.

Ultimately, whether you choose to dabble or go all in is a deeply personal decision that depends on your values, aspirations, and circumstances. However, I encourage you to embrace the mindset of going all in and committing fully to your goals and dreams. By doing so, you can unleash your full potential and create a career and life that truly fulfill you.

So, if you’re ready to take the next step towards achieving your goals and living a life of fulfillment, I invite you to embrace the mindset of going all in. Commit fully to your dreams, and watch as you unleash your full potential and create a career and life that truly fulfill you.
